About Ancestree Detectives…
Ancestreedetectives.com is an online Genealogy startup. We are looking for our charter team of professional genealogists to experience the excitement and innovation of our launch right along with us.
As an “On-Demand” Genealogist, you will work live by screenshare helping consumer family historians when they run into trouble researching their family tree on any of the popular sites, such as Ancestry.com, MyHeritage, or FindMyPast. In other words you’ll help them break down their brick walls and get back to building their family tree happily again.
Here’s how it works. A customer logs on to our platform, provides a detailed description of what they want help with, and schedules a time to work together with you, one of our On-Demand Genealogists.
At the appointed time, you both log into Ancestreedetectives.com and work together over a live screenshare. The client will have provided you with admin access to their tree, for example, as well as all the details you need to know to get started helping them. You work together on the tasks and provide the client with a recording of the session for future reference.
Initial sessions are 60 minutes minimum and subsequent sessions can be booked for as few as 30 minutes. We use a metre-pricing approach, so if the client would like to continue the session, you are paid for the entire time you are working together.
Ancestree Detectives a full suite of services including:
On-Demand Sessions with metre pricing
Research Packages at different price points
Workshops on different topics that take place on our platform
Genealogy Books and Merchandise
Heritage Travel Advice
Gift Certificates
Our Founders are what sets us apart from other companies in the genealogy industry. Both Dawna Henderson and Theresa McVean have backgrounds in digital innovation and advertising. Dawna launched the largest digital advertising agency in Canada with clients like Coca-Cola, Mercedes Benz, Nike, and other leading brands. Theresa began her experience at the Toronto Reference Library helping people with their research needs before the internet was used by the public. She went on to hold executive leadership roles, helping to build innovative user experience platforms including in the newspaper industry.
What You’ll Do
As an On-Demand Genealogist, you work as an independent consultant and you likely have your own Genealogy practice. You set your own hours within the Ancestree Detectives platform and can work as little or as much as you want to. You’re in complete control of your schedule.
What We’re Looking For: - Role Profile -

Ability to educate the client on best practices, such as primary resources, and provide value while helping to answer their immediate questions

Ensure client satisfaction
Work with the Ancestree Detectives platform to schedule your time, provide follow-up proposals, time-tracking, invoicing
Lead workshops in your area of specialization
Write client research reports and summaries
Role Requirements
Eager to work on innovative projects and feel at ease with the unknown of new situations
Passionate about genealogy and able to translate your knowledge and ability in terms that the client will understand and learn from
Able to provide value even when the original question can’t be answered, i.e. able to show that ruling something out is valuable in a search
You have a friendly and approachable communication style
